An unusual case of metastases to a number of extraocular muscles(EOMs)from an adenocarcinoma of the stomach is reported.In a review(1)of 227 patients with metastases to the eye and orbit,the ratio of ocular to involvement was 7:1.Among all orbital tumors,those due to direct metastases(i.e.,not by contiguous extension from adjacent structures)accounted for only 0.4 to 10.5%.Discrete metastatic involvement of one or more EOMs is an even rarer event,with a literature consisting exclusively of case reports(2).In this case there was symmetrical involvement of both lateral rectus muscles and the left superior oblique muscle. |
